Benefit Rockateur – tricks and tips

So, for my birthday I was lucky enough to receive some Benefit treats from my Mum.

It’s no secret to any beauty product junkie that Benefit delivers! All of the products are beautiful, feel light on the skin, have staying power and create a satisfying overall look.
However, as Rockateur is the new blusher on the block, I wanted to share a couple of tips that I learnt at the tester session.

20130926-110512.jpg

Firstly, the blusher comes in the well designed packaging that we have grown to expect from Benefit, it also includes a good quality brush and mirror. The product itself gives a beautiful, bronzed glow to the face and sits lovely on the Hello Flawless foundation.
Depending on your beauty budget, £20+ may be a little steep for a blusher; therefore, I was excited to learn that it makes a beautiful lipgloss, by simply mixing the blusher with clear lipgloss and it can be used on the eyes to create a natural eyeshadow look.
Being able to use the blusher for other parts of the makeup routine, for me, makes it value for money.

Here’s my before and after:

Other tips that I’ve picked up include mixing the Benefit highlighter with the primer, this gives an added glow, and I also extend the hydration concealer up from under the eye, towards the cheek bone – this helps highlight the face.

My final recommendation is that if you’re going to purchase Benefit products or any other high brands, go and have a tester session first – that way you can be sure you’re using the makeup to it’s full potential.

I hope this post has been useful, do you have any makeup tricks or tips?

Rimmel Salon Pro by Kate Moss #review

20130512-175315.jpg

With gel nail varnish becoming increasingly popular, I wanted to try Rimmel Salon Pro by Kate Moss, and see if it really does live up to the salon gel brands.

I tried the varnish in the Hip Hop shade which I really like, it’s bright and bold – perfect for summer! As you can see from the photo, the nail varnish has a really impressive high shine finish. It also applies really easily and dries fast – on the image I’m wearing two coats.

I can’t complain about the price either, with the product being under £5. The varnish is supposed to stay on for 10 days, so far I’ve had it on for three and it’s still going strong.

One thing that I did expect from the varnish is a thicker consistency; however, I really can’t fault it, I’m hugely impressed with these varnishes. With Kate creating 10 shades altogether, I’ll definitely be purchasing more from this range!

I purchased mine from Boots, and at the moment if you spend over £10 on Rimmel products, you receive Rimmel Volume Scandal Eyes Flash Mascara absolutely free – Brucey bonus!!

Have you tried it yet?

Beauty in Bahrain #henna

During my recent trip to Bahrain, I fell in love with a new beauty regime – henna!

20130430-211139.jpg

It’s something that I’ve always admired from afar, the detail is just incredible! It was fabulous being in a place where you can just have a henna done with ease, and my daughter loved it too!

I had two done and the ladies that did both were incredibly quick and skilled; they use a tube and just apply it freehand, it really is amazing to see! When first applied it needs leaving for 30 minutes to dry, then it goes all crumbly and comes off, leaving you with an orange pattern, after a few hours this turns dark brown.

I don’t have tattoos, mainly because I’m so indecisive that I’d be scared of going off them, so this was perfect for me!

What do you think?

Hair and makeup – check.

I’ve blogged about how fab my 11 year old sister is at creating hairstyles before, and she really is so creative!

20130218-213149.jpg

On Saturday night, I was going out and to be honest my hair is at a stage where it could do with a trim, so I wanted it putting up. She did it for me with a braid one side, a twist the other and then a bun at the back. I don’t think I’d be as good as her at doing hair now, never mind when I was so young.

20130218-213444.jpg

She really is talented and has got a natural flare for it; it’s a great way for her to earn a bit of pocket money too 😉 hehe. She’s great at styling her own hair as well as other people’s.

It worked out well for me because my Mum used to be a beautician, so while my younger sister was doing my hair – my mum started doing my makeup. Haha – who needs a salon? It was nice because although I love makeup, I’m a bit of a stick it on and go type – while my Mum really pays attention to detail. I could do with them at my house every time before I go out!

So here’s a little post to having a talented family 😉

My place or yours

The truth is I should have blogged about this Gina Benefit perfume a long time ago!

20130120-125541.jpg

20130120-130322.jpg

I absolutely love it and only realised how much when I ran out before Christmas, and had to wait a whole month to receive some more as a gift.

I have tried mini samples of other Benefit fragrances, but Gina is definitely my favourite!

20130120-130216.jpg

Gina smells sweet, without being too light and girly. If that makes sense? I’d also describe it as quite an earthy scent. I also have the moisturiser, which really brings the fragrance out and ensures that the scent lasts longer.

20130120-131513.jpg

The packaging is also really modern, whilst keeping a traditional, seductive and glamorous theme.

If you haven’t already, I’d definitely recommend smelling a sample next time you pass the Benefit counter.

New Year, New Skin

My blog has been well and truly neglected over the Xmas period. First of all I was busy with festivities and since then I’ve been ill , which I’m still only just getting over now. Anyway, I hope you all had a good one and happy New Year.

I thought I’d kick off my first post of the year with a beauty review, about this Soap and Glory Leap of Face set, which I received as a Christmas gift.

20130105-142651.jpg

First of all the set comes with a handy headband, so hair can be swept off the face while the products are applied. A buffing mitt is also contained, which is soft and perfect for working the Peaches and Clean deep cleansing milk into the face. This leaves your complexion feeling really fresh and it smells lovely; it is recommended to apply this on an evening to remove makeup.

20130105-144624.jpg

I suffer with dry skin in the winter and this set seems to have really perked it up, particularly the For Daily Youth moisturiser, which should be applied after cleaning your face in the morning. The cream is quite light but adds plenty of moisture, without being too oily.

20130105-144659.jpg

Dry lips are a problem for many people this time of year, and the Mighty Mouth lipgloss, which includes over 70% moisturising ingredients is a great product to keep them away. The shade is light so it is great for daily use and when applied it has a similar pumping feeling to the traditional Mother Pucker Soap and Glory Glosses.

The set is so versatile and is perfect for any skin type; I’d definitely buy it as a gift and any of the three products individually.

Festive nails

I’m really starting to get into the festive mood now; the TV is loaded with Christmas adverts, most town centres have switched on their lights and the shops are full of beautiful gift sets.

20121123-192445.jpg

For a spot of present buying on Thursday, I thought I’d decorate my nails in line with the occasion. I used two shades of gold: a metallic from Posh Polish and a glitter varnish from Accessorize.

20121123-192318.jpg

This was just an experiment but I think it works, and the colours are perfect for the season; what shades will be gracing your nails over the period?

The Tangle Teezer

The Tangle Teezer has become a popular bit of kit in our house!

I’ve been using the branded brush for some time now and I can honestly say it has transformed my life, well ok, not my whole life but certainly my mornings!

20121122-164550.jpg

Me and my daughter both have very long hair and working my way through two heads of knots, believe me, wasn’t fun! I’m not a brush expert and I have no idea about the science behind them; however, I do know that I can now glide through my own hair with ease and no longer have a moaning five year old when styling her hair.

20121122-164103.jpg

I came across the Tangle Teezer in a hair salon, after complaining about the difficulties that having long hair can bring. I have the Salon Elite version, whilst my daughter uses the Magic Flowerpot; they also come in Compact, Aqua Splash and Original styles.

If you have long locks, I definitely recommend investing in a Tangle Teezer!

Festival Survival

After attending music festivals for a number of years now, in the UK and abroad, I thought they deserved a post!

Festivals aren’t for everyone – but for me there is nothing better than live music, a few carefree days in a field and some good company.

The main thing non-festival goers seem to ask about is the cleanliness; as a lover of beauty products, hair straighteners and clean showers myself, I understand the concern!

Most festivals do provide showers, however, they are the kind that would probably make you feel more dirty after you’d had one. Everyone is in the same boat, so don’t worry too much, and a weekend of being a bit stinky really is worth it!

There are some essential beauty products that can help you on your way:

First of all, nobody should attend any festival without some dry shampoo! It really is a lifesaver, and revives and freshens up hair once it begins to get a little greasy. I usually go for the batiste brand, which has a number of flavours available – this time I have opted for cherry.

20120819-201704.jpg

Remember to rub or brush through hair after applying dry shampoo, otherwise it will leave white bits in your hair, which is fine if you want to go for the grey streaks look.

The next essential is wipes, take plenty of them because you will use them no end. I like to use face wipes which include vitamin e; it is good for skin and all of the food and drink consumed is bound to take its toll on your complexion.

20120819-203502.jpg

Take a good moisturiser and sun cream – dry, burnt skin isn’t going to be on top of your festival list. Simple’s kind to skin moisturiser has sunscreen protection and vitman e included – ideal!

20120819-190606.jpg

Other items to remember for cleanliness are a toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, toilet roll, deodorant and a small compact mirror. Some of these seem obvious but I’ve mentioned them anyway because you definitely wouldn’t want to forget them!

I try and keep makeup to a minimum, sticking to items that I’ll definitely wear. It’s a long walk from the car to where you will pitch, therefore, nothing unnecessary should make it into your rucksack!

Which leads me to my next point – make sure the bag you take is a rucksack, the first festival I attended I took a holdall with wheels, which was difficult to carry because of the rough strap and it was impossible to drag through the mud – I needed rescuing with a friends wheelbarrow! Good rucksacks also have body straps which make them more comfortable, and helps spread the weight.

20120819-204739.jpg

A handbag big enough to fit a waterproof poncho in, along with any other items you may wish to carry around with you is important for the daytime.

20120819-203731.jpg

Remember these items, along with some clothes for all weather conditions and of course wellies – and you’ll be all set 🙂

Lazy Sunday Spa Day

I bought my mum a spa day at Kenwick Park, Louth, for her 40th birthday – we went yesterday and it was just lovely.

The day started in the swimming pool which is complete with a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi on the poolside. This was so relaxing and we already felt all refreshed.
At 12.00 we headed over to the hotels restaurant where we had a three course lunch. For starter I had pâté and my mum had goats cheese with parma ham and a beetroot salad; they were both so tasty – I meant to take a photo but we tucked in so quick I didn’t get chance.

This was followed by a carvery; we both had beef which was really succulent and melt in the mouth. After this it was already 1.30 (time for our treatments) so we didn’t have time for pudding, but the lady kindly said we could come back later on and have it. My only criticism of the day would be that we went across to the restaurant at 12.00 when we were booked in, but the food or our table wasn’t ready until 12.30 so we had to rush a little to get done in time.

We then went across to the treatment area where we received a back massage, facial and had our nails filed and painted. I had mine painted in Jessica, bikini bottoms, a deep pink colour which was a similar shade to my skirt I wore on the evening for bank holiday. ( post to follow)

20120604-101724.jpg

All of this came under a package (I won’t say how much as it was a gift) but for what we received I thought it was a really reasonable price. Look at the packages here.
We didn’t forget to go back for our apple crumble and vanilla custard which rounded the day off just nicely.
We really did have a lazy Sunday!
